Dear friends of Theosophy,

this is for the time being the last issue of Theosophy World News. 10 years ago, at the beginning of 2014, the first Theosophy World Newsletter was published and about 40 issues have been published since then.

At that time, 2014, I wanted to give something back to Theosophy, because it changed my life for the better, and so I did. And it was interesting to be involved in the movement as "chronicler" and watch it develop, although 10 years is not a very long time for a movement that is much older than the 150 years since Blavatsky.

The main reason for this indefinitely long break: It is currently no longer technically possible to compile international news from outside the movement in a simple way (therefore this is also an incomplete issue). However, this became the main part of the newsletter within the last years, as both, the news and articles from the movement itself, are becoming fewer and fewer and fewer.

Certainly, there is a lot of work in the regular magazines, in the area of video there is a lot going on in terms of publications, also in social media, but for this newsletter and its focus (away from social media and YouTube) it is too little due to the circumstances just mentioned.

Maybe there will be a sequel at some point, but for now that's it and the only thing left for me is, to wish you much success in your theosophical work.

With kind regards from Germany

Steven Otto

Topic of the quarter

Thoughts along the way

As this is the last issue for the time being, I would like to say once again (I have done so many times before) what is close to my heart (my thoughts) regarding Theosophy.

It is very important for the success of Theosophy:

No. 1. to recognise, that the teaching was given to us by Blavatsky at that time in order to start a moral revolution in the West, from which we are now further away than we have probably been for a long time, and that this should be the goal of most of the theosophical work after Blavatsky.

No. 2. to recognise, that the (earthly) human being, the Ego, is not a priori immortal, but must earn this immortality (like every spiritual being) by his own efforts, and that only in this present life, if he incessantly refines his character and strives towards reason (so he strengthens his will and pushes himself away from "matter").

No. 3. to recognise, that No. 2 is the key to No. 1 and therefore also to stop ignoring the higher 3 levels of consciousness of man, planet etc. as given by Blavatsky (see SD, Vol.1. p. 177 + 200), because this 3 higher levels are the gateway through which the journey into higher realms of teaching begins, which is the key to No. 2.

I don't want to bore the reader here with quotes from the Teachers and Blavatsky that make this clear.

In conclusion, I would like to say, that it is not about presenting an attractive teaching that is as free of contradictions as possible in order to convince as many people as possible, but rather to recognise (imho) that it is precisely the (esoteric) contradictions and their development potential that are highly interesting aspect of the teaching and that it was and is always (in Theosophy) about the few, who become more, who are willing to and whose karma allows such a real and spiritual view.

The “Wisdom religion” is the inheritance of all the nations, the world over.

To be true, religion and philosophy must offer the solution of every problem. That the world is in such a bad condition morally is a conclusive evidence that none of its religions and philosophies--those of the civilized races less than any other--have ever possessed the TRUTH. The right and logical explanations on the subject of the problems of the great dual principles, right and wrong, good and evil, liberty and despotism, pain and pleasure, egotism and altruism, are as impossible to them now as they were 1880 years ago. They are as far from the solution as they ever were, but. . . . "To these there must be somewhere a consistent solution, and if our doctrines will show their competence to offer it, then the world will be the first one to confess, that ours must be the true philosophy, the true religion, the true light, which gives truth and nothing but the TRUTH. . . .

From the article "The Theosophical Society: Its Mission and Its Future" by H. P. Blavatsky, published in Lucifer, August 1888 and especially this paragraph HPB has quoted from the so-called "Maha Cohan Letter".

Hi Steven, Your decision to suspend - at least for the time being - new issues has obviously to be respected. You are the only one to trully know the challenge of preparing them. I wouldn´t mind too much though on one of the reasons you mention - the little (easier) availability of "material": there is plenty of material in this issue - as always - and possibly more than what people can really assimilate in a quarter. Everything is cyclic, news are, and the ebbs and lows are just part of it. Quality over quantity, no? Anyway, you know you are the only one in the world to provide an overview of the TM, and it would be a pity to see your work come to an end. Still, this has to be respected. Jut as food for thoughts, but couldn´t people (TS, ULT, etc) elect a responsible to send you what is going on beside your work of going after them and/or gathering nes on-line? All the best, Stefan.

Hello Stefan, thanks for your kind words, very much appreciated. Obliging others to co-operate by sending me the articles, for example, is something that I don't think would work. Thanks for your efforts though, as you say, everything evolves and who knows what will happen next :)

I was very sad to read of your decision- I have always enjoyed reading your publication and to publish it on BBR - the worlds largest community of Theosophists.

Dear Steven, I am sorry to read that you are calling it quits after 10 years. I really liked this compilation, because it gave me a much wider view and insight into the whole movement than I am capable of myself. I love the interesting reads you have found and brought to my attention by sharing. Thanks for what you've done so far, and I hope you're re-energized after some rest. Greetings from Budapest: Adrienne
